The recent floods in the Nepal–Tibet Himalayan region are an important current-affairs topic for pageant contestants because they connect climate change, disaster preparedness, regional cooperation and human impact.

Contestants do not need to memorise complicated scientific details. They should understand one central idea:

Climate change is not only an environmental issue. It is also a human and humanitarian issue.
